Pocinho Dam
Vila Nova de Fôz Côa
Pocinho Dam sits across the bed of the Douro on the left bank, in the municipality of Vila Nova de Foz Côa, beside the village of Pocinho and between the mouths of the Sabor and Côa rivers.
Opened in 1983, it is the second-newest dam on the Portuguese stretch of the Douro and the last one with a lock in national territory — which makes it an unavoidable waypoint for anyone travelling the river by boat.
Passing through the lock is, in itself, part of the Upper Douro cruise experience.
