Miranda do Douro Dam

Miranda do Douro Dam is built across the bed of the Douro, very close to the town of Miranda do Douro, on the international stretch where the river forms the border. It has an unusual feature: crossing it means changing country — Portugal on one side, Spain on the other. It sits at the heart of the Douro Internacional Natural Park, and the road descending from the village of Bemposta to the dam is itself a panoramic route above the river cut deep into the plateau.
